The Challenge
The creative challenge was to design a cohesive publication for the Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning Department (CETL) that provides tools, training and resources to all employees on campus. In the past, employees had to seek help on their own to navigate through the website or find the latest campus details and maps. With this 80-page publication, employees now have access to all campus information, including HR policies, campus information systems, latest degree and certification lists and custom drawn maps of each building on campus. The book is divided into five chapters. Each chapter is color-coded, which allows employees to flip through the book and find information quickly. The content was broken down into manageable sections and made it easy to comprehend.
Key Takeaways
-
Cohesiveness makes a huge impact
There was no internal branding before the creation of this book. All of the information was stored in Word documents and the faculty didn’t really use it. Combining information and processes for multiple departments in one place and giving it a unified look and feel made it much more desired by the faculty. Instead of just referencing it in the beginning of the semester, it was used throughout the entire term.
-
Simplicity can create an effective design
I created infographics to simplify long department procedures. Breaking up the content and using visual elements helped explain processes more efficiently.
